Scriptures
God inspired the authors of Scripture by his Spirit to speak to all generations of believers, including us today. God calls us to study and meditate on the stories, songs, poems and letters found within His word so we can faithfully interpret and live out His Way as we are led by His Spirit.
God and Creation
There is one True God who is the eternally self-sufficient “I AM” and has revealed himself to us as Creator, Father, Provider and Redeemer. He was and always will be in a communal relationship with himself – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created all things good. He created humans in his image to live in fellowship with him, one another, our inner self, and creation and gave us the task of caring for his creation.
Sin and Destruction
The enemy tempted the first humans to disobey God’s command, and darkness and evil entered the story through human sin and are now a part of the world. This resulted in our relationships with God, others, ourselves, and creation being fractured, and physical and spiritual death and separation from God entering the story. This left the first humans, and us today, in desperate need of redeeming.
Jesus and Salvation
God’s plan of redemption was found in Jesus the Messiah, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, mysteriously God having become flesh to dwell among us. Jesus came to preach good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted and set captives free, proclaiming a new arrival of the Kingdom of God, and restoring our fractured world. His suffering, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection is the only means by how we are forgiven of our transgressions against God and brought into right relationship with God.
The Holy Spirit
The Spirit of God gives testimony to the truth of our salvation through Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. The Spirit empowers us with gifts, convicts, guides, comforts, counsels, and leads us into truth through a life of worship and expressing of our faith in action.
Faith and Deeds
Faith in the redemptive work of Christ will find its expression in action. The prophetic voices and letters of the Apostles found in Scripture compel us to be an advocate for the oppressed, marginalized and poor. What we believe should be evidenced in how we live. God cares deeply for those in need and reveals himself as a Father to the fatherless and Husband to the widow. He calls us to reach out and care for those in need.
Ordinances of the Church
The church is rooted and grounded in Christ, practicing spiritual disciplines and celebrating baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are symbolic acts that declare our belief of sharing in Christ’s death so we may also share in his resurrection.
The Church
The church is a global and local expression of living out the way of Jesus through love, peace, sacrifice, and healing. The church is not a building, but the gathering together of believers who take the call to embody the resurrected Christ seriously. We are the image of Christ on the earth, and are called to go into all the world and preach the gospel through word and action.
Judgment
The day is coming when Jesus will return to judge the world, bringing an end to injustice and restoring all things to God’s original intent. All will stand before him to give an account of their actions in our lives here. Those who believed in and accepted his redemptive work will enter into eternal life with him, while those who shunned his redemptive work will find themselves in eternal punishment and separation from him.
The New Heaven and the New Earth
God will reclaim this world and rule forever. The earth’s groaning will cease and God will dwell with us here in a restored creation. On that day we will beat swords into tools for cultivating the earth, the wolf will lie down with the lamb, there will be no more death and God will wipe away all our tears. Our relationships with God, others, ourselves, and creation will be whole. All will flourish as God intends.
